A nighttime off-road outing in the desert outside Surprise ended in tragedy Wednesday when a side-by-side utility terrain vehicle rolled over near Deer Valley Road and 185th Avenue, killing one person and sending another to the hospital. Deputies with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office found two people in the UTV; one was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. The sheriff's office has kept the investigation open as they work to sort out what went wrong.
