A Thursday night trip on a King County Metro bus in Auburn ended in gunfire when a 17-year-old boy was shot and wounded, authorities said.
The shooting was reported at about 9:30 p.m. The teen was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was listed in stable condition. Officers shut down the scene and brought in a K-9 team to search the surrounding area while investigators documented the bus and collected evidence, according to KOMO News.
Auburn police said they were still sorting out what led up to the shooting and that, as of about 10:30 p.m., no arrests had been made. Officers used a K-9 unit to help track any potential suspect while detectives continued processing the area, KOMO News reported.
Transit Safety and Agency Response
While shootings on Metro buses are relatively rare, the system has seen serious violence before. After a fatal shooting on a bus in White Center in 2023, King County Metro temporarily increased security by adding extra officers to patrol the affected line, as reported by The Seattle Times.
Metro materials note that transit security staff and the Metro Transit Police are responsible for enforcing the systemwide code of conduct and for coordinating with local police departments when incidents occur, according to King County Metro.

Auburn police said detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting and have not released any information about possible suspects or a motive. The case remains active, and more details are expected as the investigation moves forward, according to KOMO News.
