Katrina Ann Silvas, 27, a mother of seven, was found dead last Wednesday inside her apartment at the Sun Pointe complex in northeast El Paso, according to authorities and funeral notices. As her family prepares to lay her to rest this week, detectives say they are still working to figure out how she died.
Investigation underway
El Paso police said they were called to the Sun Pointe apartments in the 4700 block of Hondo Pass Drive around 10:15 p.m. last Wednesday after a report of an unattended death. Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit are handling the investigation, according to KVIA. Officials did not immediately release the identity of the person found, but said the case remains active.

An obituary from Sunset Funeral Homes lists Silvas as 27 and notes that she leaves behind four sons and three daughters. The tribute adds, "Katrina was very loved and will always be missed." Visitation is scheduled for May 18, with a Mass set for May 19, according to the Sunset Funeral Homes obituary.
Cause of death pending
Officer Adrian Cisneros told the El Paso Times that investigators have not yet determined a cause of death and are still deciding whether to classify the case as a homicide. The Sun Pointe complex, managed by Housing Operations and Management Enterprises, sits in the Angel's Triangle neighborhood on land that once housed the Franklin D. Roosevelt public housing complex, the newspaper reported.
