A narcotics raid at a home on the 100 block of Vista Drive in Sonoma ended with more than a pound of suspected cocaine seized and one man in custody, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say they also recovered a firearm, ammunition, cash, and drug-packaging materials, and booked one person on suspicion of narcotics sales.

Detectives served a search warrant just after 8 PM last Saturday at the house, the sheriff's office said. Deputies announced themselves at the front door, but the resident allegedly shut and locked it, prompting them to force their way inside and detain multiple people. Investigators reportedly found more than a pound of suspected cocaine along with cash, packaging materials, a gun and ammunition. Forty-four-year-old Cristian Castaneda was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail, according to the sheriff's office, as reported by SFGATE.

Broader enforcement in the North Bay

The Vista Drive bust comes amid a series of recent drug seizures in Sonoma County and the wider North Bay. In February, a Sonoma County Sheriff's K-9 alerted deputies to nine pounds of suspected meth during a traffic stop that ended with two arrests, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. A 2022 Santa Rosa press release from the Drug Enforcement Administration described a multiagency operation that dismantled a methamphetamine organization and netted roughly 140 pounds of meth, underscoring ongoing regional enforcement efforts, the DEA said.

Possible charges

The arrest was listed as suspicion of narcotics sales, a label prosecutors often use while they weigh felony counts such as possession for sale. Under California law, possession of certain controlled substances with the intent to sell is prosecuted under Health & Safety Code §11351, which can carry state prison exposure. Large quantities of drugs, packaging materials and significant cash are commonly cited as signs of intent to distribute. The statute text is available on the California Legislative Information website.

The Sheriff’s Office said the arrest capped a months-long investigation and that the case remains under active review. Charging documents and a court date had not been released at the time of the report, SFGATE noted.
