A woman was killed Tuesday night in a hit-and-run crash in west Phoenix, the latest deadly incident along McDowell Road and another case where police say the driver took off instead of stopping to help.
What Officials Say
Phoenix police said officers were called to the area of 39th Avenue and McDowell Road around 10 p.m., where they found a woman who had been hit by a vehicle. Phoenix Fire Department crews rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she did not survive her injuries. Detectives told reporters the vehicle that struck her left the scene and has not been found, according to 12News. The driver remains at large.
Police Asking For Tips
Investigators said the vehicle did not remain on scene and they are asking anyone who saw the crash, or who has dash‑cam or doorbell footage from the area, to come forward. Authorities have not released any suspect or vehicle description. McDowell Road's Safety Record
McDowell Road has seen several deadly pedestrian crashes in recent months, keeping the corridor under a harsh spotlight for traffic safety advocates and police alike. An earlier deadly hit‑and‑run on McDowell in April left a man dead, and the Phoenix Police Department's media advisories list multiple fatal-collision investigations along the same roadway this year.
