A late-night house party in west Phoenix turned violent Friday when gunfire erupted, leaving a 21-year-old man seriously wounded, according to police. Witnesses rushed him to a nearby hospital, and he was later transferred to St. Joseph’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Detectives said his condition was eventually upgraded to stable after initial treatment. Officers secured the scene and said the investigation remains active as they work multiple leads.
As reported by AZFamily, officers were called around 10:30 p.m. to the area near 101st Avenue and Wier Avenue, just south of Broadway Road. Witnesses told investigators the party was wrapping up when two groups exchanged gunfire, and the 21-year-old was loaded into a vehicle and driven to a nearby hospital by someone at the scene. According to AZFamily, police had not made any arrests and had released no suspect information as detectives continued to work the case.
Police canvass neighbors and seek video
The Phoenix Police Department said detectives are going door to door in the neighborhood, collecting evidence and looking for any surveillance or cellphone video that might have captured the shooting or the moments leading up to it. Authorities urged anyone with information to contact Silent Witness at 480‑WITNESS or 480‑TESTIGO for Spanish speakers.
Part of a recent pattern of party shootings
The shooting is the latest in a run of late-night, party-related gun incidents across the West Valley this spring, adding to cases that have triggered heavy police responses and stirred concern among nearby residents. Recent Avondale house party gunfire coverage earlier this month highlighted the same call for witnesses and video. Detectives say community-shot video and firsthand accounts are often crucial for identifying suspects and moving investigations forward.
Anyone with information about the west Phoenix shooting is asked to call Silent Witness at 480‑WITNESS or submit an anonymous tip online, as outlined by AZFamily. Police say no suspect descriptions are being released at this time, and detectives continue to follow up on leads.
