A Patriots T-shirt and a blue hat are now at the center of an MBTA Transit Police investigation after an elderly rider was assaulted at the Alewife Station busway last Friday. Officials released images of a man they want to identify and said they are still piecing together exactly what happened.
Transit Police shared the surveillance photos in a post on X, describing the incident as an assault and battery on an elderly person and listing the time as 11:25 a.m. The man shown in the images appears to be wearing a Patriots T-shirt and a blue cap, and investigators are asking the public to help put a name to the face.
Police seek tips
Anyone with information is asked to call MBTA Transit Police at 617-222-1050, as reported by Boston 25 News. The department has urged witnesses to come forward and noted that tips can be submitted anonymously.
Alewife station context
Alewife is a busy transfer point where multiple bus routes meet the Red Line, a setup that funnels a constant stream of commuters, students, and shoppers through the station. Its aging parking garage and a stalled redevelopment effort have drawn sustained attention from riders and city officials, Boston.com reported in January. Those long-running questions about the garage have kept safety and maintenance at the site in the local conversation while the MBTA weighs repair and redevelopment options.
How to help
Transit Police say anyone who witnessed the incident or has video from the Alewife busway around the time of the assault should reach out to the Criminal Investigations Unit at 617-222-1050, according to the department's post on X. The agency did not indicate that an arrest has been made and said the investigation remains active.
