A dust-up over a Tesla charging spot at the Aventura Commons shopping center on Sunday ended with two men in handcuffs and a teenager struck in the leg, according to police. Investigators say a tense argument at the Superchargers suddenly turned physical, sending bystanders scrambling and drawing officers to the busy plaza.
Men Face Child-Abuse And Battery Charges
Aventura police identified the men as 47-year-old Serguey Artigas and 34-year-old Ahmed Mohammed. Artigas is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and child abuse without great bodily harm, while Mohammed faces child abuse without great bodily harm and misdemeanor battery, according to WSVN. Both were booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Jail records show Mohammed received a $1,000 bond on the battery charge, while bond amounts for the child-abuse counts and for Artigas had not yet been set.
What Police Say Happened At The Chargers
The confrontation unfolded just before 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the electric-vehicle charging stalls in the Aventura Commons plaza at 21265 Biscayne Blvd, where the teen was trying to park, according to Local 10. Police say Mohammed got out of his vehicle and pushed and grabbed the teen in an effort to move him from the stall. Moments later, officers allege, Artigas put his SUV in reverse and hit the teen in the leg. Witnesses backed up the teen’s account, and officers later found the two men near a PetSmart in the same shopping center.
A Small Conflict With Bigger Echoes
Local authorities and safety advocates note that arguments over charging access can escalate quickly. In 2023, a fatal confrontation at a Colorado Tesla charging station led to a lengthy criminal investigation and trial, underscoring how these disputes can turn deadly. Next Steps And Police Comments
Aventura police say the investigation is still active and urged anyone with video or other information to contact detectives, according to WSVN. During questioning, Mohammed told officers the teen had skipped the line for the charging stalls, while Artigas denied hitting the teen, the arrest report states. Prosecutors will decide whether to file formal charges beyond the arrests, and the county jail roster lists both men as booked into TGK.
