A midday double stabbing in Battle Ground left one person dead and another in the hospital Friday afternoon, according to the Clark County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded just before 1:30 p.m. to reports of a stabbing near Northeast 117th Avenue and Northeast 244th Street. A man was pronounced dead at the scene, and a woman with serious injuries was taken to a local hospital. A suspect was taken into custody at the scene, the sheriff's office said.
According to KGW, the sheriff's office said its Major Crimes Unit was processing the scene and that NE 244th Street was closed from State Route 503 west to NE 239th Street while investigators worked. Deputies first arrived just before 1:30 p.m., the outlet reported, and officials confirmed that a suspect was taken into custody at the scene.
Road Closure And Investigation
The sheriff's office briefly shut down NE 244th Street while evidence teams searched the area and detectives spoke with potential witnesses. The county's enforcement branch says it handles major violent-crime responses and supports patrol units during active investigations, which is why the Major Crimes Unit was called in to process the scene. Officials did not immediately release the identities of the victims or the suspect as the investigation continued.
Local Context
Battle Ground residents have seen other high-profile violent incidents in recent years. Last June, the city was the scene of a double homicide that drew a major criminal investigation, as reported by KPTV. That 2025 case and others have at times strained local law-enforcement resources and focused attention on how detectives respond to serious assaults and homicides. Detectives asked anyone with information about Friday's stabbings to contact the Clark County Sheriff's Office.
