Brockton High School’s graduation turned tense on Saturday when a visibly upset woman ran onto the field at Marciano Stadium, sprinting toward Mayor Moises Rodrigues and shouting that he had “done something” to her daughter. School staff and officers quickly moved in, escorted her away from the ceremony, and the event went on as planned while police opened an investigation.
What Happened At Marciano Stadium
The dramatic moment was captured on video by the city’s public-access channel. As Rodrigues delivered his remarks, the woman could be heard yelling, “You know what you did to my daughter,” before staff and officers intercepted her on the field, according to The Boston Globe. The mayor continued speaking while she was removed from the area. The graduation ceremony was being held at Marciano Stadium on the Brockton High School campus, per Brockton Public Schools.
Investigation Underway
The Plymouth County district attorney’s office confirmed that troopers from the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the DA are investigating a formal complaint filed with the school system by a student and that student’s parents, according to Boston 25 News. Prosecutors have declined to say what the allegation involves.
Legal Steps And Hearings
A harassment-prevention order has been filed against Rodrigues, and court records show a two-party hearing scheduled for June 22 in Brockton District Court, according to WCVB. The station reports that the order was impounded because it involves a juvenile. The Brockton School Committee has also called a special meeting to address the situation. Rodrigues currently serves as both mayor and chair of the school committee.
Mayor’s Response And Background
Rodrigues’ deputy chief of staff said the concern stems from an interaction at the Huntington Day Parade on May 22 and that the mayor has cooperated with a review by Brockton Public Schools, according to Boston 25 News. Rodrigues told reporters he decided he would still speak at graduation but would not participate in handing out diplomas. He was sworn in as mayor in January 2026 and is Brockton’s first popularly elected mayor of color, according to WGBH.
What’s Next For The City
In the coming weeks, State Police investigators and the Plymouth County district attorney’s office will review the complaint and related evidence, while the city waits for the outcome of the late June court hearing. Residents and school officials say the episode has put a harsh spotlight on how school events and city leadership collide, and the upcoming special School Committee session is expected to be the first public forum to directly confront the fallout from the on-field disruption.
