Police on Monday, June 15, released a surveillance photo of a man they say slashed a 22-year-old in the face in broad daylight on May 18 at East 167th Street and River Avenue in Highbridge. Investigators say the attacker pulled a knife and cut the victim around 12:30 p.m., then took off, leaving the young man injured as detectives renewed a public plea for tips.
According to News 12 New York, police are hoping the newly released image will jog someone’s memory and help put a name to the suspect. The NYPD Crime Stoppers program is asking anyone with information to call its tip line at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or leave an anonymous tip online at NYPD Crime Stoppers.
Attack Near Busy Subway Stop
The May 18 attack happened right by the elevated 167th Street station on River Avenue, a stop on the 4 train. According to Wikipedia, station exits spill out onto River Avenue and East 167th Street, putting riders close to where police say the slashing occurred.
The neighborhood has seen similar knife attacks in recent months. On March 5, a separate assault near East 167th Street and Gerard Avenue also involved a face slashing, as reported by amNewYork.
Pattern Of Daytime Attacks
The Bronx has logged several daytime stabbings and slashings this spring, leaving neighbors on edge and detectives combing through security footage and hunting for witnesses. A May 21 street clash in Soundview highlighted how often investigators are now leaning on doorbell cameras and other surveillance. In that case, police repeatedly urged residents to save and share any video that might help piece together what happened.
For the Highbridge case, police are asking anyone who saw the May 18 attack or who may have captured it on video to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online at NYPD Crime Stoppers. Detectives say the newly released photo is meant to spark fresh leads as they work to track down the slashing suspect.
