
A 26-year-old man survived a terrifying close call Saturday morning when a bullet grazed his head near the Kingsborough Houses in Crown Heights, police said. The shooting happened around 11 a.m. near the NYCHA complex, leaving the victim in stable condition as officers fanned out across the area, knocking on doors and speaking with witnesses while detectives processed the scene.
Police response
According to News 12 Brooklyn, police arrested at least one person who became disruptive at the Crown Heights scene as detectives searched for the shooter and collected evidence. Authorities said investigators were interviewing witnesses and canvassing the surrounding blocks as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Fatal Ocean Hill shooting overnight
Just hours earlier, a separate shooting turned deadly in nearby Ocean Hill. As reported in deadly night on Somers Street, officers responding to a 12:37 a.m. 911 call found a 34-year-old man outside 17 Somers St with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Residents and local leaders have long wrestled with questions of safety and investment at Kingsborough Houses, one of Crown Heights’ largest NYCHA campuses. The site recently opened an innovation learning lab for residents, per BK Reader, and the city has approved plans for a roughly 200-unit affordable housing project on underused NYCHA land, according to Urbanize New York.

Detectives are asking anyone with information, photos or video from either shooting to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS or submit a tip online via the department’s Crime Stoppers portal, per NYC.gov. Tips can be submitted anonymously and may be eligible for a reward, officials said.
