
One person was shot and taken to a Tulsa-area hospital after an afternoon shooting outside a shopping center on Southeast Washington Boulevard in Bartlesville, authorities said. Callers reported gunfire near the 500 block of Southeast Washington Boulevard at about 3 p.m. Responding Bartlesville Police officers, along with an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper, secured the area and detained a suspect without incident, as reported by Fox23. Authorities found a person who had been struck outside a business in the shopping center, and first responders provided aid before the victim was transported to a Tulsa-area hospital.
Investigation Update
Investigators told Bartlesville Radio that the shooting initially appeared to follow a dispute involving several people and that detectives have many witnesses to interview. "Our investigators are actively working to determine the circumstances that led to this incident," Deputy Chief Troy Newell said, the outlet reports. The department has not released the victim's condition.
New Detail: Shooter Not Part of Fight
In an update to Bartlesville Radio, police said detectives developed evidence that the person who fired was a third party who was not involved in the initial altercation. Investigators said that bystander observed a man allegedly trying to assault another person with a pair of scissors and then discharged a firearm, striking the alleged assailant. Detectives said the investigation will be forwarded to prosecuting authorities when complete.
