A normally quiet stretch of the coast in Carlsbad turned tense today as police locked down the Solamar Mobile Estates community and searched for a person who ran from a traffic stop, according to the department.
Officers set up a tight perimeter around the park and focused their efforts near Sea Breeze Drive and Easy Street. Police called in extra help, including air support, to sweep the area from above while officers moved through the neighborhood on the ground. Neighbors reported seeing a helicopter circling overhead and hearing announcements blaring from a loudspeaker as the search unfolded.
By this afternoon, police had not released any information about arrests or injuries.

Police did not immediately release a description of the person they were looking for or any details about the original traffic stop that led up to the search.
Neighbors report helicopter and loudspeaker alerts
Residents traded real-time notes in a local Reddit discussion, saying a helicopter was circling low over the area while officers used a PA system to address people on the ground. Several posters said activity appeared to be centered near Palomar Airport Road and Avenida Encinas and that officers were blocking entrances to the mobile home park.
Those accounts line up with the general search area described by police, though they have not been independently verified.
Why air support shows up in searches like this
Air units are a standard tool when officers are tracking a suspect or searching a large area. The San Diego Police Department’s Air Support Unit manual notes that the unit provides air support to patrol operations and is used to search for lost or stranded persons and/or suspects. The manual also describes the helicopters as a regional resource that can assist nearby agencies when available.
Carlsbad Police did not say which agency was flying the aircraft involved in today’s operation.
Where to find official updates
Residents looking for verified information are urged to follow the City of Carlsbad Police Department and its online alerts. The department posts advisories on its website with the latest updates.
If you live near Solamar Mobile Estates, officers are asking people to follow directions from police on scene and steer clear of the active perimeter while the search continues. Any new details are expected to be shared through the department’s official channels as they are released.
