Crash history at the intersection

Where it happened
Friday’s deadly collision took place at the heavily traveled junction of Freedom Drive and Ashley Road, near the Ashley Park neighborhood. The city has already flagged that intersection for attention. As outlined by the City of Charlotte, the Freedom Drive and Ashley Road junction is part of neighborhood improvement planning because of high traffic volumes and ongoing safety concerns.
What investigators say
Police are still sorting out the sequence of events that led to the crash. As WBTV reported, investigators have not determined the cause and have not yet released identifying information about the person or people killed. Detectives are expected to examine the crash scene along with any available surveillance footage and witness statements as the investigation continues.
How this may affect drivers
