How Investigators Say the Arrest Unfolded
According to the Vancouver Police Department, the case began when someone close to the juvenile reported troubling messages between the teen and an adult. Detectives from the department’s Special Investigations Unit, Digital Evidence Cybercrime Unit and the Children’s Justice Center developed the case and ultimately arrested Sohlman when he arrived at the middle school. The department’s public statement lists potential charges that include communication with a minor for immoral purposes, commercial sexual abuse of a minor, rape of a child and sexual exploitation of a minor.

All of the offenses named by authorities are felonies under Washington law and carry significant penalties if proven in court. The state’s rape-of-a-child statute is codified at RCW 9A.44.073, and commercial sexual abuse and related crimes appear in RCW Chapter 9.68A. These remain allegations, and suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The Clark County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office will determine what formal charges, if any, to file.
