Just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, Miami Springs police say a Hialeah woman turned a routine rideshare stop outside a Sleep Inn near Miami International Airport into a brief carjacking. According to investigators, 49-year-old Natasha Ethel Bagley got into a heated argument with an Alto-for-Uber driver, then took off in his SUV. Officers arrested her the next day, and she now faces a string of felony charges tied to the alleged confrontation at the hotel. The driver told police he feared for his life and said he was hurt when Bagley allegedly slammed the door on his arm.

What police say

Detectives say Bagley became “irate” in the hotel carport, kicking the rear-right passenger door and ripping off the door’s weather seal. She then allegedly reached down to the floorboard, grabbed a medium-sized metal Yeti water bottle and swung it at the driver. Authorities say she slid into the driver’s seat of the Kia EV9, yanked off the turn-signal and windshield-wiper levers from the steering column, tossed those parts to the ground and drove away in the SUV while the driver’s phone was still inside. Hotel staff told officers Bagley had been staying at the Sleep Inn and called police when she came back the next day, at which point she was taken into custody on site. According to Local 10.

Her criminal past

The new arrest also dredged up a headline-grabbing case from 2019, when Bagley and another woman were accused of attacking a Burger King manager after being refused free fries. Court records show Bagley pleaded guilty in 2020 to burglary with assault or battery, strong-armed robbery and criminal mischief related to the April 2, 2019 incident. Her co-defendant later accepted a plea deal that included probation, according to those filings and earlier coverage of the case. As reported by CBS Miami.

What's next

Miami Springs police have charged Bagley with carjacking, aggravated assault with a weapon, criminal mischief, grand theft and battery. She was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and is being held without bond, according to the arrest report. Prosecutors will now decide how to formally file the case as the investigation moves through the Miami-Dade court system. The Miami Springs Police Department is continuing to investigate and has not issued further public comment. According to Local 10.

The incident underscores the risks rideshare drivers can face at hotel pickups and other stops, and authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact Miami Springs police. The department has not said whether any surveillance footage or more witness accounts will be released.
