
A quiet Sunday afternoon in northwest Atlanta turned violent when a 16-year-old boy was shot on Mayson Turner Road, and now police are trying to track down the group they say was on his heels just before the gunfire.
The shooting happened around 12:40 p.m. in the 900 block of Mayson Turner Road NW. Officers found the teen and got him to a hospital, where authorities say he was alert and breathing. According to police, the boy could not identify who attacked him, and the case is now in the hands of the Atlanta Police Department’s Aggravated Assault Unit.

Investigators have put out surveillance stills and video of several people they are calling persons of interest. Officials say the 16-year-old was followed before the group opened fire and hit him in the shoulder, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. Witnesses told officers they saw the group run toward Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard after the shooting. Local outlet 11Alive also aired a Crime Stoppers “be on the lookout” segment that includes the same surveillance clips and police stills.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, Zone 1 officers responded around 12:40 p.m. Sunday to a report of a person shot and located a 16-year-old male near 1003 Ashby Terrace NW. APD’s preliminary statement says he may have been wounded near 992 Mayson Turner Road NW. The department noted the victim was “alert, conscious, and breathing” when officers reached him and stressed that the information is preliminary and could change as the investigation moves forward. The case is being worked by Aggravated Assault Unit investigators under reference number 261510995.

The incident is not the first time this stretch of Mayson Turner Road has seen serious gun violence.
