What started as a routine fender bender in Kendall turned into a terrifying shakedown, according to state troopers. A 19-year-old Miami-Dade woman was arrested Thursday after investigators say she threatened to shoot another driver unless he sent her $50 following a crash near State Road 94 and Southwest 152nd Avenue on June 4.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the shaken driver told officers he feared for his life before transferring $50 to a passenger in the other car. Troopers identified the suspect as Olivia Rios-Papillo, who now faces attempted strong-arm robbery and leaving-the-scene-with-property-damage charges. Authorities say they later found her near the crash site, appearing to repair damage to a vehicle believed to have been involved in the collision.
Troopers Say Threat Came With a Cash App Ultimatum
Investigators told WSVN that Rios-Papillo argued with the other driver, grabbed a black bag from a passenger and demanded $50 through Cash App. According to troopers, she warned that "blood would be spilled" if the money did not arrive.
They say Tesla video footage captured both the crash and the tense exchange that followed. The victim later told investigators he was afraid he would be shot.
After she was advised of her Miranda rights, Rios-Papillo denied threatening the victim with a firearm, according to the account given to WSVN. She told investigators she demanded the $50 because she believed the crash was the other driver’s fault.
Arrest and Booking
Following medical clearance, Rios-Papillo was taken into custody and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, according to Miami-Dade Corrections. The county-run facility is one of Miami-Dade’s main intake centers for people arrested by local and state agencies.
Prosecutors will review the investigative file from troopers and decide whether to pursue the existing counts as charged or add any additional charges as the case moves into the court system.
Investigation Continues
The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the ongoing investigation and has flagged video from the incident for closer review, consistent with its role in crash response outlined by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
As the case proceeds, court filings and public records are expected to show upcoming hearing dates, any changes to the charges and how prosecutors choose to move forward.
