
Elyria's west side turned into an active crime scene late Saturday after a person was shot near Foster Avenue and Penfield Avenue. The victim was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, and officers kept the area locked down while they searched for whoever pulled the trigger.

According to a post from the Elyria Police Department, Chief James Welsh said officers remained on scene late into the night with an active investigation underway. Detectives were working to identify the suspect or suspects, and the post urged the public to steer clear of the area while evidence was collected.
The department also publicly thanked the Lorain County Sheriff's Office, Lorain Police, and North Ridgeville Police Department for helping with the response.

Officers asked drivers and nearby residents to avoid the Foster and Penfield area while they processed the scene, warning that traffic could be affected while the investigation continued. Police said the case remains active.
