Police say a North Memphis apartment robbery that turned violent ended with one suspect in custody after officers followed a trail from a getaway car to a rental contract.
According to Memphis police, four suspects forced their way into a North Memphis apartment on May 6 and robbed a resident at gunpoint. Officers say one person sped off in a red car while the others took off on foot. Investigators later zeroed in on a rented vehicle and made an arrest in the case.
How investigators tracked the getaway car
Detectives reviewed surveillance video and say they spotted a red Nissan Versa leaving the scene. The car’s tags came back to Enterprise Rent-a-Car, and records showed it had been rented on May 4. That paper trail led officers to arrest Krichun Maclin, who is charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary and is being held on a $150,000 bond, as reported by WREG.
Pattern of violent home invasions in the city
Community members say this latest case adds to a run of bold home invasions across parts of the city this spring and has fueled calls for heavier patrols. A recent Frayser home invasion with similar details, including stolen phones and major cash losses, was reported in coverage of a Frayser teen busted in $10K Chime home invasion.
Victim’s injuries and what was taken
Officers say they found the victim bleeding from his head and arms. The victim told police the suspects hit him with their handguns. According to WREG, the victim reported that the thieves took his phone, keys, and a wallet with about $900 inside, then used the keys to get back into the apartment and make off with a PlayStation 5 and a black bag. The investigation remains active as police search for the suspects who ran from the scene on foot.
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who has video of the suspects to contact the Memphis Police or CrimeStoppers. Officials say the arrest is one of several recent robberies that have shaken neighborhoods north of downtown, and they are urging residents to keep valuables secure and report suspicious activity right away.
