A 32-year-old West Perrine woman is in county custody after deputies say she attacked two people in southwest Miami-Dade less than four hours apart, first with a power tool and later with a knife. Both victims were treated by medics and taken to Jackson South Medical Center. Authorities have not said what might have prompted the violence.
What deputies say
Miami-Dade deputies say the first call came in around 10:30 a.m. Saturday for a reported stabbing at Southwest 174th Street and 102nd Avenue. When they arrived, they found a man with cuts to the top and back of his head, and medical staff later told investigators he had suffered a fractured spine. A witness told deputies the man had been struck several times with what she believed was a Sawzall power tool.
Less than four hours later, deputies were dispatched to 10230 Southwest 176th Street for another stabbing, this time involving a woman who had been stabbed in the back. She was also taken to Jackson South Medical Center. Deputies say they found the suspected attacker the next day and booked her into county jail, where records show she is being held without bond, according to WPLG Local 10.
Booking and where she's being held
Miami-Dade Corrections processes arrests at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, the county intake facility where inmates are booked and held while their cases move through court. The county corrections site notes that Turner Guilford Knight is also the designated release center and offers information on inmate searches, bonds and visitation for family members. County corrections officials did not immediately provide additional comment beyond the booking information that is posted publicly, according to Miami-Dade Corrections.
Charges and legal implications
Records show 32-year-old Latifah Marie Thompson faces one count of attempted felony murder causing injury and one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm with a deadly weapon. Both charges are felony-level offenses under state law. Attempted felony murder is addressed in Florida Statute 782.051, and aggravated battery is defined in Florida Statute 784.045. Both can carry lengthy prison terms depending on how prosecutors proceed. The arrest report and booking information were detailed by WPLG Local 10.
What’s next
Investigators have not released a motive and have not shared further details about the attacks. Any new court filings and upcoming hearings will appear on the county docket. The Eleventh Judicial Circuit keeps a public case search where members of the public can look up official filings and hearing dates (Eleventh Judicial Circuit).
