
A strip-mall parking lot in the northeast valley turned into a crime scene last Thursday night. Now, Las Vegas police say they have the man they believe is responsible.
Detectives arrested a 39-year-old man on Wednesday in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and a woman injured along East Craig Road near Las Vegas Boulevard. Authorities say investigators spent days chasing leads before the department’s Major Violators Unit tracked the suspect down and took him into custody.
Arrest and charges
Per LVMPD, detectives identified 39-year-old Abdul Muhammad as the suspect, and the Major Violators Unit located and arrested him on Wednesday. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on multiple felony counts, including open murder with a deadly weapon, two counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
Scene and investigation
The shooting happened shortly after 9 p.m. last Thursday in the 4900 block of East Craig Road near North Nellis Boulevard, while the victims were standing in a strip-mall parking lot outside nearby businesses. When officers arrived, they found a man who was pronounced dead at the scene and a woman who was taken to University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to KTNV. Investigators say the shooting appears to be isolated and are asking anyone with information or video from the area to contact Homicide detectives.
