The Frenchy Gourmet, a Bay Area farmers market darling known for ultra-creamy kefir yogurt, is about to go brick-and-mortar inside San Francisco’s Ferry Building. The company is opening its first permanent kiosk there next week, stocked with more than 30 rotating flavors that range from bright lemon and sour cherry to dessert-style options like Nutella and white chocolate. All of it will come in 8-ounce cups designed to be both indulgent and probiotic-forward.

What to expect at the kiosk

Set near Gott’s Roadside and Humphry Slocombe inside the Ferry Building, the new counter will sell 8-ounce plastic containers for $8 each, or four for $30, with ready-to-eat parfaits also in the mix, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Owner Muhammad Ali told the paper that the Ferry Building stall will be his first permanent outpost after years of working the farmers market circuit. “It’s a big step for us,” Ali said.

From markets to a permanent counter

Ali started the Frenchy Gourmet during the pandemic and steadily built a following at farmers markets around the Bay Area. The Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association lists the business on several market rosters, including events in Los Altos and Brentwood, highlighting how far the brand now travels, per the Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association.

Kefir, flavors and snacks

The company’s fruit yogurts are rooted in recipes Ali’s grandmother made in Tunisia and are built around kefir cheese, a cultured dairy that is high in probiotics and protein and has a tangy, sour-cream-like texture. The yogurts contain no additives, and the Ferry Building kiosk will also feature savory kefir-cheese spreads in flavors like feta-jalapeño and tomato-garlic, along with crunchy fried pita chips and dehydrated vegetable chips, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Where it fits in the Ferry Building

The Ferry Building pulls double duty as a major tourist stop and a day-to-day food hub. Outside, the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market runs three days a week, and Foodwise oversees the schedule and vendor lineup, per Foodwise.

All of that foot traffic means Frenchy Gourmet’s counter is likely to see crowds during weekday lunch hours and on Saturdays when the market is in full swing. If getting to the Ferry Building is not on your calendar just yet, the company will keep showing up at Bay Area farmers markets while the new kiosk gets up to speed.
