Gunfire near Interstate 240 and South Walker Avenue left one man dead Wednesday evening in south Oklahoma City, where officers arrived to find the victim just north of the freeway and pronounced him dead at the scene. Police have not yet released the man’s identity as detectives continue to work the case.
Officers were called to the area shortly after 7 p.m. and quickly treated the stretch near several commercial buildings as an active crime scene, according to KOCO. Investigators told the station they believe the shooting was an isolated incident and said there did not appear to be an ongoing threat to the public. Multiple witnesses were detained nearby while detectives searched for evidence and pulled surveillance footage from surrounding businesses.
Recent violence near I-240
The I-240 and South Walker corridor has been drawing uncomfortable attention lately. Earlier this month, Hoodline reported on two found dead in a tent behind an apartment near the same intersection. In that earlier case, detectives urged anyone with information to contact the Oklahoma City Police Department’s Homicide Tip Line at 405-297-1200.
How investigators are responding
Officers remained at the scene into the night as detectives followed up on leads and processed physical evidence, KOCO reported. Police have not announced any arrests and have not shared a possible motive. Investigators are asking anyone with video or information that might be connected to the shooting to contact Oklahoma City police.
