A Jonesboro block was turned into a crime scene Monday after a man was found shot to death in the 40 block of Darwin Drive, with yellow tape sealing off the neighborhood as detectives worked the case. Responding officers found the man suffering from gunshot wounds, and medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene while investigators began combing through the area for clues.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the Clayton County Police Department has not yet released the victim’s name or age, and officials have kept quiet on whether they have any suspects or arrests. Detectives are treating the case as an active homicide investigation, reviewing surveillance video from around Darwin Drive and interviewing nearby residents. Police have not said whether they believe there is a continuing threat to the surrounding neighborhood.
Investigators hunt for footage and witnesses
Detectives from Clayton County’s Criminal Investigations Division spent Monday evening cataloging evidence and talking with neighbors as they work to piece together what led up to the shooting. County officials are again urging residents to register their private security cameras through the Connect Clayton program so investigators can quickly find potential video. The registry notes that signing up does not give officers live access to any cameras, but it does help them identify where footage might exist when they are tracking a case.
How neighbors can help
According to the Clayton County Police Department crime tips page, anyone with information about the Darwin Drive shooting can reach out anonymously. Tipsters can call the department’s main number at 770‑477‑3747, text "CLAYTONPD" plus their tip to 274637 (CRIMES), or use the department’s online anonymous tip portal. Residents who have security video from around Darwin Drive are urged to save any relevant clips and register their cameras with Connect Clayton in case detectives request the footage.
The Darwin Drive killing is the latest deadly shooting in Clayton County this month. Earlier this week, police arrested a suspect in the June 19 killing of 16‑year‑old Jalil Jones, who was shot while standing up for someone being bullied, as reported by WSB‑TV. That case prompted a community memorial and a continuing homicide investigation as detectives pursue additional leads. Authorities say both probes remain active as they keep reviewing evidence and potential surveillance footage.
