A man was shot and killed Monday evening just off the Atlanta Beltline’s Westside Trail, turning a residential block into an active crime scene as rush hour wound down.
Atlanta police said officers were called around 5 p.m. to a house on Stafford Street SW near the trail. When they arrived, they found a man who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
Police Response and Early Investigation
According to WSB-TV, officers located the gunshot victim at the Stafford Street SW address shortly after the call came in. Investigators have not said what may have led up to the shooting or whether they have identified any suspects.
Trail Location and Recent Violence
The shooting unfolded near the Westside Trail, part of the Atlanta BeltLine, a 22-mile loop of trails, parks and future transit that links neighborhoods throughout the city, per the Atlanta BeltLine. The corridor has seen violence before. On Dec. 31, 2025, another shooting along the Westside Trail left one person injured, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Case Remains Open
Atlanta police are leading the investigation and have said they will release additional information as it becomes available, according to WSB-TV. No arrests have been announced, and officials have not yet released the victim’s name.
