A pedestrian was killed early Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle in the Maryvale neighborhood of west Phoenix, authorities said. The collision happened around 2 a.m. just north of Interstate 17 near 57th Avenue and McDowell Road, turning a normally quiet corridor into an active investigation scene. Emergency crews found the person dead at the scene while police detained the driver and closed McDowell Road for an extended investigation.
Investigators found the victim in the roadway and have not released the person’s identity, as reported by Arizona's Family. The outlet reports that the driver was detained, but officials have not said whether impairment is suspected or if any charges are expected. McDowell Road was closed from 55th to 57th drives and is expected to remain shut while detectives process evidence and document the scene.
