Early Monday, June 1, El Paso woke up to mostly clear skies and a comfortable low-70s reading at El Paso International Airport. Humidity is low, winds are light, and the sun is ready to take temperatures on a fast climb through the day.
Afternoon Heat
Expect a sun-drenched Monday with highs near 98°F across the city, with the lower valleys flirting with triple digits. A few outlying spots could reach 100 to 101°F by midafternoon. East-southeast winds will stay light at around 2 to 6 mph, so heat, not wind, will be the main concern for outdoor workers, athletes, and event organizers, according to the National Weather Service El Paso.
Storms Move In Tuesday Through Wednesday
Moisture off the Gulf is expected to push in by Tuesday, June 2, turning the pattern more unsettled and bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms along and east of the Rio Grande. The best chances for more widespread storms look to be Tuesday night into Wednesday, June 3, when storms could bring brief heavy rain, localized flash flooding, gusty outflow winds, and hail. Forecasters first highlighted this upcoming shift in our prior coverage when we first flagged this shift, as per Hoodline.
Impacts And Safety
Plan for hot, dry conditions through Monday afternoon, then quick changes by midweek. Heavy downpours can trigger rapid runoff in washes and low-lying streets, and gusty outflows may kick up dust ahead of storms. If you are out driving, slow down in heavy rain, do not try to cross flooded roadways, and keep an eye on short-term forecasts and alerts if you have outdoor plans Tuesday through Wednesday.
This outlook will be updated as the week unfolds, so check local forecasts and any watches or warnings if you have travel or outdoor plans later this week. Stay hydrated today, and if you work outside, consider shifting the toughest tasks to the morning or early evening.
