A Fairfield Township motorcyclist who was airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center after a collision on State Route 4 has died, authorities said. Fairfield Township Police identified him as 29-year-old Brent Neal. The crash happened June 10 at the intersection of SR 4 and Walden Ponds Circle, and Neal died yesterday at UC Medical Center.
Police: Vehicle Pulled Out Into Oncoming Traffic
Fairfield Township Police told Local 12 that Neal was riding northbound on SR 4 when a vehicle pulled out of Walden Ponds Circle to head southbound and the two collided. WLWT reported that AirCare crews flew Neal to UC Medical Center after the crash, where he later died from his injuries.
AirCare Responded; Rider Reportedly Unhelmeted
WLWT reported the crash occurred around 5:35 p.m. and that AirCare transported the rider to the hospital. That station and other local coverage said first responders described major damage at the scene and noted the rider was not wearing a helmet.
Reconstruction Team At The Scene
WHIO says the Butler County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team joined Fairfield Township officers at the scene as investigators worked to establish what happened. Authorities have not announced any charges, and the crash remains under investigation.
Helmet Law And Legal Notes
Ohio law requires DOT-approved helmets for riders under 18 and for riders with a "novice" endorsement, and mandates eye protection for all riders, according to Ohio Revised Code § 4511.53. That statute also specifies that a helmet-law violation "shall not be used in the trial of any civil action," a provision that can shape how helmet use figures into later civil claims after crashes.
What Police Are Asking From Witnesses
Fairfield Township Police asked anyone who saw the crash or who has video to contact the department as the investigation continues, according to Local 12. This story will be updated as officials release more information.
