Fishers drivers are staring down a busy construction season as the city rolls out a $12.4 million plan to rebuild and resurface some of its most heavily traveled streets. From major roundabout work to fresh pavement on neighborhood roads and new multi‑use paths and pedestrian bridges, traffic disruptions will be part of the daily routine through the fall, complete with lane shifts, detours and a few full closures.

The city laid out the details in a June 12 announcement, describing the package as an investment in safety, congestion relief and long‑term growth, according to City of Fishers. The timing lines up with the tail end of Fishers’ roughly $180 million overhaul of State Road 37 into a series of above‑grade interchanges.

"As Fishers continues to grow, we’re making intentional investments in infrastructure that not only address today’s needs but support our community well into the future," Hatem Mekky, the city’s director of engineering, said in the announcement. He described the season’s work as a mix of corridor upgrades, intersection improvements and neighborhood resurfacing designed to extend pavement life and improve safety, according to City of Fishers.

Major Projects And Closures

The most disruptive work will unfold at the Southeastern Parkway and Olio Road roundabout, where reconstruction is scheduled to start on or after June 15 and continue through November. Another big headache in the short term will be the new roundabout at 96th Street and Cyntheanne Road, which will bring a full intersection closure through August. City officials say emergency access to IU Health Fishers and Ascension St. Vincent will stay open while crews stage the work, and they also plan closures along 136th Street between Prairie Baptist Road and Southeastern Parkway for corridor upgrades, as reported by WISH-TV.

Resurfacing, Widening And Local Streets

Hamilton County will take the lead on resurfacing Olio Road from 96th Street toward the Geist Reservoir, with lane restrictions and phased work running into late fall, according to the county highway department. The plan to widen USA Parkway to two lanes in each direction from 106th Street north to the IKEA area, intended to ease access to the Fishers District and the event center, is also on the schedule for this summer, according to the Hamilton County Highway Department and local reporting by LarryInFishers.

How To Plan Your Trips

Drivers are being urged to build in extra travel time, stick to posted detours and be ready for reduced left turns and through movements on several key corridors during rush hour. For current maps, detours and project timelines, the city is directing motorists to its DriveFishers updates and Capital Project Dashboard, as noted by WISH-TV.
