A 21-year-old man was shot in the head and killed Monday evening on a Fordham block, just steps from an apartment building, turning a residential stretch of East 187th Street into an active crime scene. Officers found the wounded man on the street, rushed him to a nearby hospital, and he was pronounced dead shortly after, police said. No arrests had been made as of Monday night, and detectives are still working the case.
According to PIX11, officers were called to 413 East 187th St. just before 7 p.m. The NYPD told the station the victim had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and later died at a nearby hospital. Citizen video cited in the report showed sections of East 187th Street cordoned off with police tape and blood visible on the pavement, while investigators searched for clues and worked to identify a suspect.
Recent violence in the corridor
The killing adds to a string of shootings rippling through Fordham and nearby blocks this spring. On June 4 a man was shot to death on the Grand Concourse, as reported in a late-night Grand Concourse killing, and local outlets have been tracking clusters of incidents along that busy corridor.
