A confrontation outside a Madison market Wednesday morning ended with one man stabbed and rushed to the hospital after police say he was caught on camera beating another person with a baseball bat.
Security footage reportedly shows the clash unfolding right in front of the store along Gallatin Pike, with the man who suffered the stab wounds initially on the offensive. The person who allegedly stabbed him took off before officers pulled up, and investigators are still trying to track him down. Police said the wounded man is expected to survive.
What the Video Shows
According to WSMV, Metro Nashville police said the security video captures one man walking out of the market and heading toward another man who was sitting in a car. The man in the car then pulls out a baseball bat and begins striking the man who had approached him.
“It was during this time that the subject swinging the bat was stabbed by the other subject he was fighting,” a Metro Nashville Police spokesperson told the station. The footage was recorded in front of the store at 341 Gallatin Pike North in Madison, just northeast of downtown Nashville.
Violence Along Gallatin Pike
The latest stabbing adds to a troubling track record for Gallatin Pike, which has seen other serious violence in recent years, including a fatal stabbing that led to a homicide investigation. The Metro Nashville Police Department later charged a suspect in that case, as outlined in a Metro Nashville Police Department media release.
Police Search and Suspect Description
In Wednesday’s case, police said the alleged stabber ran from the scene before officers arrived. He was described as a white man wearing blue pants and a gray shirt, according to WSMV. As of Wednesday afternoon, authorities had not announced any arrests or charges.
Investigators are asking anyone who saw what happened or who may know the suspect to contact them.
