A blufftop Glencoe lakefront house that sold last year for $9.2 million is back up for grabs, this time with a $14.8 million price tag that represents roughly a 60% markup. The eyebrow-raising relist is turning heads not only for the jump in the asking price but also because the property is a modernist rebuild on more than two acres above Lake Michigan.
MLS records show the home closed on April 30, 2025, for $9.2 million, according to Compass. It is now back on the market with a $14.8 million asking price, per listing portals including Lakehouse, which pulls data from the MLS.
Rebuild and features
Originally constructed in the 1960s, the house was largely rebuilt around 2000 by Chicago modernist Tony Grunsfeld, according to The Real Deal. MLS sheets and public listings indicate the residence comes in at about 8,574 square feet with five bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a pool and a three-car garage, per Redfin.
A test for the North Shore market
Recent deals and local coverage suggest that the North Shore luxury market is still very much in play, even as inventory remains tight. As reported by Crain's Chicago Business, other high-end sales and relistings nearby are keeping buyer attention locked on turnkey lakefront and blufftop properties.
Who’s behind the sale
Public records show the sellers are Jane and Dennis Carlton, the couple who commissioned the modernist rebuild. Listings credit Linda Levin of Jameson Sotheby's as the current listing agent, while Annette Blumberg of Baird & Warner handled earlier marketing, according to The Real Deal.
Whether the $14.8 million asking price holds will serve as a short-term test of this rarefied slice of the market. Buyers at this level have been selective but willing to pay for rarity and turnkey condition, so watch for price moves or offers in the coming weeks as agents and the market size up the steep relist.
