A late-night bike ride on Grand Avenue in Glendale turned tragic early Monday when a woman was struck by multiple vehicles and later died from her injuries, according to police.
Officers and medical crews responded to the area of Grand and Myrtle avenues, where they found the woman unresponsive near a damaged bicycle in the roadway. She was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The collision shut down a stretch of Grand Avenue while investigators worked the scene.
What police say
Glendale police said the department’s Real-Time Crime Center reviewed evidence and determined the woman was first hit at the intersection of Grand and Myrtle avenues, then struck by two additional vehicles. No descriptions were immediately available for those vehicles, and none of them stayed at the scene. Investigators said the drivers may not realize they hit a person, according to Arizona's Family.
Legal duties after a crash
Under Arizona law, drivers involved in crashes that cause injury or death must stop, exchange information and provide reasonable assistance. In serious cases, leaving the scene can be charged as a felony, as outlined by the Arizona Revised Statutes.
