Gunshots shattered the early evening routine at the McDonald’s on Northfield Road in Maple Heights yesterday, leaving one man wounded and two parked cars punched through with bullets as people scrambled to get away.
Police said the shooting broke out in the parking lot of the McDonald’s at 5114 Northfield Road, where callers told dispatchers they heard roughly 10 shots as people ran from the scene. Officers flooded the area and began talking with shaken witnesses while securing the lot.
According to Cleveland.com, multiple callers reported around 10 shots and said it appeared there were two shooters. Witnesses described one suspect in an all-gray Nike outfit with a ski mask, and others linked a second person to a red sedan, police told the outlet.
Police told Cleveland.com that “two men exchanged gunfire” in the lot. A short time later, a man showed up at a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Detectives identified a gray Honda Civic as being involved and later located the car in nearby Shaker Heights, where officers briefly detained a man before releasing him as the investigation moves forward.
Detectives Zero In On Gray Honda Civic
Investigators say the gray Honda Civic remains a key piece of the puzzle as they sort through sometimes conflicting witness accounts and pull surveillance footage from the McDonald’s and nearby businesses. No charges have been announced, and officials say the case is very much active.
