Gunfire tore through a southeast Dallas block last night, leaving one man dead and another wounded after what witnesses described as multiple shooters opening up on North Masters Drive, police said.
Officers were called around 7:50 p.m. yesterday to the 2000 block of North Masters Drive in southeast Dallas after reports of shots being fired. Witnesses told police that several people began shooting, and three unidentified suspects were seen firing before taking off from the area. Several vehicles were also hit in the chaos.
Investigation details
According to DPD Beat, the preliminary investigation found that three unidentified suspects were shooting at the location, striking two men as well as multiple vehicles. One victim died at the scene, and Dallas Fire-Rescue took the other to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner will assist with formally identifying the man who was killed. The case is being documented under number 083361-2026, according to police.
Neighborhood context
The shooting unfolded in a stretch of southeast Dallas near Pleasant Grove that has seen violence before. In May 2024, a teenager was killed, and two others were wounded in a shooting on the same street, as reported by The Dallas Morning News.
The deadly pattern has left families and neighbors in Dallas repeatedly bracing for tragic phone calls and late-night sirens. Broader coverage of gun violence in the city has documented how communities are grappling with multiple losses over time, including long-form reporting by The Trace. Local leaders continue to walk a tightrope as they balance enforcement against outreach efforts in southern neighborhoods where residents are wary of both violence and broken promises.
Investigation ongoing
No arrests had been announced in the department’s latest update, and investigators were still processing the scene and interviewing witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. C. Shelton, #7760, at 214-671-4740 or [email protected], according to DPD Beat. Officials say additional details will be released as the investigation moves forward.
