On Thursday, Cherish Sawyer walked back to the downtown Portland corner where her son was shot and gently placed a hand-painted white memorial cross at the intersection. The quiet act marked the third anniversary of a killing that, she says, has left her family without answers.
As reported by she still has no answers, Sawyer said, "my son was murdered here three years ago, and i still have no answers." She told the station that Dominick was a father of three and had been getting ready to move to the Tri-Cities for a fresh start before he was killed.

The Portland Police Bureau identified the man as 29-year-old Dominick Lee Sawyer and says officers encountered an in-progress shooting at the intersection of SW 3rd Avenue and SW Harvey Milk Street on June 10, 2023. Officers provided medical aid at the scene; one person was declared dead and two others were taken to area hospitals with injuries, and the bureau lists the case number as 23-152485, according to a Portland Police Bureau news release.
