An early-morning confrontation in the Heights turned deadly Sunday when gunfire erupted outside the Heights Drive Inn on North Main, leaving one man dead, according to Houston police. Officers arrived to find the victim in the bar's parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds, and Houston Fire Department crews pronounced him dead at the scene.

Officers were called to the scene around 2:30 a.m., the station reports. Detectives from the HPD Homicide Division are handling the case, and no arrests had been reported early Sunday.

Detectives spent the morning canvassing the area for surveillance video and witnesses as the investigation continues, and officials said they will release more details when available.
