A Miami-Dade County high school teacher was arrested Monday on accusations that he carried on a sexual relationship with a student throughout the 2025–26 school year, authorities said.

Detectives identified the suspect as 53-year-old Michael Enriquez, a teacher at American Senior High in Hialeah. Investigators say Enriquez is in county custody as the criminal case begins to move through the courts, and they are actively looking into whether additional students may have been victimized.

According to detectives, the student was 17 when the relationship allegedly started in May 2025. That spring, investigators say the pair met twice after school in a shopping-plaza parking lot, where they allegedly engaged in sexual acts inside Enriquez’s truck. The two allegedly reconnected when classes resumed in August 2025, with the final encounter reported on May 14, 2026, after the student had turned 18.

Enriquez was taken into custody at the school and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He faces multiple counts, including unlawful sex act with a specified minor as an authority figure, lewd and lascivious touching of a minor, and offenses against a student by an authority figure. His bond was listed as “to be set.” Detectives told reporters they believe there could be other potential victims and urged anyone with information to speak up, according to Local 10.

Part of a pattern of recent cases

The arrest lands amid a string of educator-related investigations in Miami-Dade this spring, putting fresh pressure on the district to address staff misconduct. Earlier in May, NBC6 reported that a separate teacher at Miami Jackson Senior High was facing sexual-conduct charges, signaling that the problem is not confined to a single campus.

How to report tips

Detectives with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office are asking anyone with information to contact the agency’s Special Victims Bureau at 305-715-3300, as listed by the sheriff’s office. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing. All charges are allegations, and Enriquez is presumed innocent unless and until he is found guilty in court.
