A 25-year-old man was killed yesterday when he was hit by a vehicle on State Highway 205 near the Kaufman-Rockwall county line, authorities said. Officials identified him as Jatwane Anton Wilson. Investigators said the crash occurred after Wilson got out of a disabled vehicle and walked into a travel lane, where a southbound Mercedes SUV struck him. The driver of the Mercedes was not reported injured.
What law enforcement says
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the scene after reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a Mercedes SUV. Investigators said Wilson exited a disabled vehicle, walked into a lane of traffic, and was then struck by the southbound Mercedes, according to The Dallas Morning News. Officials said Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene and publicly identified him as Jatwane Anton Wilson. DPS troopers said the investigation remains ongoing, and they have not yet said whether the driver might face any charges.
Where it happened
State Highway 205 runs south from Rockwall toward Terrell and cuts across both Kaufman and Rockwall counties. Planning documents from the Texas Department of Transportation describe the corridor as a heavily used connector between suburban and rural communities, with commuters and commercial trucks sharing the same stretch. Parts of SH 205 have limited shoulders, which can create dangerous conditions for anyone who ends up outside a vehicle on the roadway. Local authorities are handling crash reconstruction and related follow-up as DPS continues its probe.
Next steps
DPS troopers said their investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information about the crash to contact their office, according to The Dallas Morning News. As is typical in serious crash cases, investigators are expected to review any witness video, assess vehicle damage, and examine available surveillance footage to piece together the sequence of events. The victim’s family had not issued a public statement as of late Sunday.
