A lunchtime confrontation on Hill Street in Oklahoma City turned into a mutual shooting Monday, leaving one teenager dead and another handcuffed to a hospital bed, according to police.
Officers were called to the 1600 block of E. Hill Street around 12:02 p.m. Monday, where they found two 19-year-old men suffering from gunshot wounds, KOKH reports. Both were taken to a nearby hospital.
Investigators say the gunfire followed an altercation between the two. One of the men, identified as 19-year-old Deveon Holt, was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The other, 19-year-old Davion Goldsby, was admitted for treatment and arrested on a complaint of first-degree murder, according to KOKH.
The deadly shooting adds to what has already been a busy year for Oklahoma City homicide detectives. As of late May, the Oklahoma City Police Department had recorded at least 30 homicides, according to the agency's publicly posted bulletins (City of Oklahoma City).
Legal next steps
Goldsby remains in custody at the hospital following his arrest on a complaint of first-degree murder, KOKH reports. The Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office will review the investigation and determine whether to file formal charges and set an initial court date.
Investigators seek witnesses
Detectives say the case is still very much active and are working to piece together what led to the gunfire between the two 19-year-olds. Anyone with information, photos or video related to the shooting is asked to contact the OKCPD Homicide Tip-Line at (405) 297-1200, according to the department's public bulletins (City of Oklahoma City).
