A Monday night party in a quiet Lithonia subdivision ended in gunfire, with three people shot and one left in serious condition, according to police. The violence unfolded along the 2000 block of Mallard Crest, where neighbors say a large gathering had taken over the street before officers swarmed the area.
Police say three people were shot
The DeKalb County Police Department told FOX 5 Atlanta that three victims drove themselves to a nearby hospital after the shooting on Mallard Crest. One person is in serious condition and two others suffered minor injuries.
Investigators have not released the names or ages of the victims, and police have not said whether anyone has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Neighbors describe a chaotic scene
Residents reported a heavy police presence late into the night as officers blocked off parts of the street, processed the scene and photographed evidence. Patrol cars, flashing lights and crime scene tape replaced the earlier party atmosphere, leaving neighbors on edge about what happened on their block.
The Mallard Crest shooting is the latest in a run of troubling calls in and around Lithonia. Earlier this month, a separate shooting at a neighborhood gas station left one person wounded, as detailed in Lithonia Chevron Erupts.
How to help investigators
DeKalb County police are asking anyone who was at the party or nearby, and anyone with cellphone video or security footage, to reach out to investigators. Anonymous tips can be sent by texting the keyword DKPD and your message to 847411 or through the department’s online tip system. For more on how the anonymous-tip program works and how to contact investigators, see DeKalb County's public-safety page.
What police are not saying yet
So far, investigators have not discussed a possible motive, have not identified any suspects and have not said which hospital treated the victims. Details about what led up to the gunfire, and whether the shooting started inside the party or outside on the street, remain unclear.
