Atlanta police are asking for the public’s help after a 68-year-old man was repeatedly stabbed at a gas station and convenience store at 655 Cleveland Ave SW, just off I-85, on Sunday, May 31. Medics rushed the victim to the hospital by ambulance, and officials said he was alert, conscious, and breathing when he was taken away. Investigators say the attacker took off from the scene and is still on the run.
Police release images and suspect description
Detectives with the Aggravated Assault Unit have released photos and video of a man in a yellow jacket who, they say, used an unidentified object to stab the victim multiple times at about 10:24 p.m. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, authorities have not yet confirmed the suspect’s identity and are asking anyone who recognizes him to contact investigators.
Reward and how to submit tips
Crime Stoppers of Greater Atlanta is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest and indictment, and tipsters can remain anonymous. As noted by Crime Stoppers, tips can be submitted by calling 404-577-8477, using the P3 Tips app, or going online to the Crime Stoppers page.
Context and neighborhood safety
The Cleveland Avenue stabbing comes on the heels of other troubling assaults that have rattled Southwest Atlanta residents. In March, police circulated surveillance footage after an elderly person was knocked unconscious near 1917 Pryor Rd SW. Officers have urged residents not to confront suspected individuals themselves and instead to call 911 if they see suspicious activity.
Anyone who recognizes the person shown in the released images or has any information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers or Atlanta police. Residents with immediate safety concerns should call 911.
