San Francisco greeted Juneteenth with a classic marine-layer morning today, waking up to low clouds, cool air and a spotty chance of drizzle before midday. Forecasters expect the gray to peel back into afternoon sun, but a steady onshore breeze will keep much of the city parked in the upper 60s.
Afternoon Winds Pick Up
By this afternoon, southwest winds are set to crank up, with sustained speeds generally between 6 and 15 mph and gusts up to 22 mph in exposed spots such as the Golden Gate and the Marin headlands. Cyclists, ferry riders and outdoor vendors should be ready for blustery crossings and unsecured gear that could go flying.
Beach Hazards And Small Craft Advisories
A Beach Hazards Statement remains in place for Pacific-facing beaches through 5 AM next Sunday, warning of sneaker waves and powerful rip currents that can knock people off their feet and sweep both swimmers and gear into deep water. Forecasters are also keeping a Small Craft Advisory up for parts of San Francisco and Monterey Bays from 3 PM to 9 PM today, and officials are urging people to stay off jetties, piers, and rocks and to never turn their backs on the ocean. According to the National Weather Service San Francisco, these conditions will make swimming and shoreline activities hazardous.
Weekend Outlook
Tomorrow could start off with a little coastal drizzle before turning mostly sunny and staying on the cool side, with highs holding in the upper 60s inside the city. Inland neighborhoods look to warm up a bit on Sunday, June 21, and forecasters are tracking a broader warming trend early next week.
