A busy stretch near Lancaster Boulevard and Sierra Highway turned into a crime scene Saturday afternoon when a report of a person armed with a knife escalated into a deputy-involved shooting. A deputy was injured, and a man later died after gunfire erupted, briefly shutting down part of Lancaster Blvd. while investigators documented the scene.
According to a post on X from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, deputies were called out around 2:00 p.m. for a report of a person with a knife. Officials said a deputy was assaulted with the knife and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A male adult suspect "was struck by gunfire and transported to a local area hospital" where he was pronounced dead. Homicide detectives were sent to the scene, and the investigation is ongoing. Sheriff Robert G. Luna added, "we are grateful that our deputy sustained non-life-threatening injuries and will be returning home to their loved ones."
