A quiet Thursday morning in Frayser turned violent when a man answering a knock at his apartment door was met with gunfire, leaving him fighting for his life and sending Memphis police back to a complex they know all too well.
Officers were called to the Ridgecrest Apartments in the Alta Vista area around 6:50 a.m., where they found the victim critically injured and rushed him to the hospital, according to police. Investigators say suspects came to his door at the complex, knocked, and opened fire when he answered. Witness accounts and surveillance video show the attackers leaving the scene in a vehicle, and detectives say the shooting appears to have been a targeted assault as they continue to ask for the public’s help.
According to Action News 5, Memphis Police were told that two male suspects initially knocked on the victim’s door before shots were fired. Surveillance video reviewed by detectives shows three people getting out of a gray Nissan sedan, walking up to the unit, and firing before running back to the car and taking off. Police have released detailed clothing descriptions for all three and are urging anyone who recognizes them to call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.

Investigators say the first suspect was wearing a black hoodie with white writing on the sleeve, red underwear visible above black pants, and black shoes. The second suspect was described as thin and dressed in a black ski mask, black jacket, black pants, and black shoes. The third person, believed to be the driver, was described as heavy-set, wearing a blue shirt, a black jacket, gray pants, white socks, and black shoes. Detectives are still combing through the footage and canvassing the Ridgecrest property for more witnesses and any additional video that might fill in the gaps.
