It was a busy Friday in Kokomo as SWAT teams hit several addresses across the city, serving multiple search warrants and hauling away suspected narcotics, firearms and two vehicles, according to the police department. The coordinated operation targeted several residential blocks and is part of an active investigation, with officers still processing evidence and keeping public details to a minimum for now.
In a media release from the Kokomo Police Department, officials said KPD's SWAT team joined forces with the Indiana State Police SWAT team and the Howard County Sheriff's Office SWAT team to execute warrants in the 600 block of East Jefferson Street, the 700 block of East Dixon Street, the 800 block of East Broadway Street and the 1200 block of South Ohio Street. Officers reported seizing approximately five pounds of suspected marijuana, about 12 ounces of suspected heroin, roughly 10 ounces of suspected cocaine and approximately 2.2 ounces of suspected fentanyl, along with multiple firearms and two vehicles. The department listed the matter as case number KPD-26-02745 and noted that the investigation is ongoing.
The release, posted by the Kokomo Police Department, directed anyone seeking more details to Detective Sergeant Andrew Grammer #411 at 765-456-7411 or [email protected]. Police also pointed out that Ascension St. Vincent paramedics were on standby to assist during the operation and emphasized that the warrants were carried out through coordinated work between multiple agencies. Officials encouraged anyone with tips related to the case to contact the detective listed in the release.
Seizures Fit a Pattern of Recent Drug Probes
The haul from Friday's warrants looks a lot like the results of other recent multi-agency drug investigations in Howard County, which have leaned on controlled buys and coordinated warrant service in an effort to disrupt trafficking networks. Earlier this year, a months-long investigation known as "Operation Almost Real" led to dozens of charges and sizable narcotics seizures, according to WRTV. Local task forces have routinely teamed up with state and federal partners to trace money, vehicles and firearms tied to drug activity.
Evidence gathered during the Kokomo searches will be sent for lab testing, and investigators plan to work with the Howard County Prosecutor’s Office to determine whether criminal charges will be filed. Comparable recent operations in the area have led to large drug and gun seizures followed by criminal cases, officials have said, as reported by local outlets including the Kokomo Lantern. At the same time, the department stressed that seizures and pending lab results are not the same as convictions and that the legal process will unfold over the coming weeks.
What Residents Should Know
Police said there is no ongoing public safety threat tied to Friday's warrant service and that investigators remain focused on collecting and cataloging evidence in case KPD-26-02745. Anyone with information is asked to reach out to Detective Sergeant Andrew Grammer using the phone number or email included in the department's release. The Kokomo Police Department has not offered additional comment beyond what was included in the media statement while the investigation continues.
