What started as a traffic stop attempt on Interstate 10 east of Lake Charles turned into a high-speed chase on June 22, ending in a field off LA 383 (Gray Bluff Road) when Louisiana State Police troopers arrested a wanted fugitive without anyone getting hurt. Troopers say the driver, later identified as Derrell Green, was behind the wheel of a silver Ram TRX reported stolen, and refused to pull over as he sped through Calcasieu and Jefferson Davis parishes until the truck finally became disabled.
According to a Region 2 news release posted by the Louisiana State Police, troopers first tried to stop the westbound Ram TRX on I-10 just east of Lake Charles. The release, titled "Troop D pursuit leads to arrest of wanted fugitive; stolen vehicle recovered," states that the vehicle ultimately broke down in a field on LA 383, where troopers moved in and took Green into custody. State police emphasized that the pursuit, stop, and arrest were all wrapped up without injuries.
Green had been wanted on outstanding warrants issued through the U.S. Marshals Service and the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division Breaux Bridge field office, and troopers say he remained a fugitive until his June 22 arrest. The release also notes that the Ram TRX had been reported stolen by the Alexandria Police Department. After he was taken into custody, Green was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center, the parish jail in Lake Charles.
The state police release posted by the Louisiana State Police lists a long slate of charges for Green: aggravated flight from an officer; possession with intent to distribute Schedule II controlled dangerous substances; possession of Schedule I CDS; possession of a legend drug; and illegal possession of stolen things valued at $25,000 or more. He is also charged with a transaction involving proceeds of drug offenses, and authorities say he is being held as a federal detainee.

State filings and bond information were not immediately released.
