A midday stabbing in Lauderhill left one man dead and sent another to the hospital around noon Tuesday, according to police. The violence unfolded outside a home in the 5300 block of Northwest 19th Street and brought a heavy emergency response into the neighborhood. Officers quickly sealed off the area while investigators began searching for the attacker.
Police search the neighborhood
Roughly an hour after the assault, officers, including K-9 units, were still combing the area and had established a perimeter, Lauderhill police spokesman Lt. Antonio Gonzalez told the Miami Herald. Gonzalez said he did not yet have information on the wounded man’s condition or the hospital where he was taken. Detectives remained on scene, interviewing possible witnesses and collecting evidence around the home and surrounding block.
Victims' conditions
Lauderhill Fire Rescue said the person pronounced dead at the scene was a man in his mid-to-late 20s, and that another man in his early 60s was taken to Broward Health Medical Center as a trauma alert, Local 10 reported. Authorities have not released the victims’ names, and police have shared few details about any possible motive. Sky10 footage captured officers working the scene shortly after 12:20 p.m., with crime tape stretched around the property.
Suspect remains at large
As of Tuesday afternoon, no arrests had been announced and the search for the assailant was still underway, with the Broward Sheriff’s Office assisting Lauderhill officers on scene, WSVN reported. Police asked neighbors to steer clear of the active crime scene while detectives worked and urged anyone with video or information to speak up. The department said the case remained active and that details could shift as new evidence comes in.
Recent violence in the city
This stabbing is one of several violent incidents Lauderhill has seen in recent weeks. On June 8, an arrest was made in a fatal shooting, Local 10 reported. Another stabbing on June 26 was covered by CBS Miami. Those earlier cases, along with Tuesday’s attack, have kept patrols stepped up and community concern high as detectives pursue leads and review available video.
